Release INFO: KangaROOS x Overkill Coil-R1 “Abyss Flip”

Teased a week ago, Overkill is back at it again with KangaROOS. Last year they came out with their collaboration with KangaROOS on the Coil-R1 “Abyss“. It was a very successful launch for the shoe. Too successful that people like myself up through the night, waiting for the online release, were disappointed when it never made it to the site. Hey, shit happens. Yesterday Overkill announced this version of the Abyss’s colorway in an anniversary edition. It’s basically a flip of that CW. They took the turquoise highlights and dressed up most of the shoes upper. The navy is now the ankle liner and the black on the KangaROOS logo is reversed; kangaroo turquoise and logo outline black. The only missing accent is the black outsole on the Abyss, which is now turquoise on the Abyss Flip…

Coming Soon: KangaROOS x Overkill Coil-R1 “Abyss”

overkill kangaroo 8

“The original shoes with pockets”. Man, memories stir of the many KangaROOS pairs I had. Negative and positive. Fast forward many years later and we now see the brand up front and center. Within the last couple of years they’ve been busy reintroducing their shoes to the market with some strong collaborations. The above is a beautiful example of that. Overkill shop teamed up with KangaROOS on the Coil-R1 to collaborate and create the ‘Abyss’ color-way. Inspired by the depths of the sea, the shoe will come dressed with premium nubuck leather throughout the upper. For better breathability, the top of the toe box, tongue and side panels will be perforated. A nice touch that gives some nice separation between the silhouettes panels. To give the navy hue a nice contrast and keep with the idea of the CW, they added a baby blue hue to the side logos, ankle liner tongue tag and Overkill Logo on the heel tap. To make the shoe a little more distinct, the KangaROOS hop logo on the side is decorated with chenille. An accent that distinguishes itself from your ordinary KangaROOS logo on the Coil-R1..

Interview: In Their Shoes – Angel aka Vagrant Sneaker

  me 2012 (Text)

I was recently interviewed by Lester Jones for a new feature called “In Their Shoes” on I Dig Your Sole Man. It’s a series about people in the sneaker/fashion arena that are intriguing to him and will have a unique story to tell. I’m very humbled by the fact that I was chosen first to kick off the series. The interview had strong questions and they were answered as you would expect them to be. Humbling and honest. If you want to know a little more about how my passion came about, than enjoy the read…

The New Crack Epidemic: Why Are Kids Getting Killed For Their Sneakers

In Sneaker Freaker 24 I wrote a story about the current state of buying elusive and limited sneakers. Most notably, those coming from Nike but not limited to just them. The story was exclusive to the print magazine, but those that didn’t get or couldn’t acquire it can now read it in its entirety after the break.WARNING! There are no photos, just words. It’s done on purpose because most people don’t read. Instead, it comes down to just looking at photos in a blog post. But, if you would like to see some photos you can check them out over at Sneaker Freaker.  Thank you to Woody and team over at Sneaker Freaker for giving me the opportunity to tackle this story and for the help with acquiring the snap shots of the videos. Enjoy the read and feel free to leave your opinion on this subject. On to to the next story…
