This past weekend I added another New Balance model to my ever growing footwear. That model is the New Balance M996 “Grey” 2010 retro. It’s a model I’ve been looking forward to grabbing for awhile, but kept forgetting to grab it. NB first launched it exclusively at Conveyor boutique at Fred Segal to only 45 pairs in 2010 and they went pretty quick. Than David Z got a hold of a few units for some of their select locations and recently, HUF released their own allocation…
The model that originally launched in 1988 from New Balance, has once again been resurrected in it’s original form. Already 20 + years later, New Balance USA almost got this release right. All the OG materials are here. This includes the rich-creamy-smooth pigskin suede, the 3M reflective accents on the N logo and the back of the achilles notch. All this sits on the ENCAP heel and C-CAP midsole. BUT, the shape is slightly off. Personally, I do’t mind it because it’s not a re-take on the model like the current NB 1500 status. Unlike like those, these actually look good. Now, if you want to get a look at what the 966 shape should look like, head over to my pal Stu’s web blog, stuartarrowsmith and check those out (Now that’s a fucking a gem).
If you want these you can find them at certain David Z stores; Mine was purchased at this location. You can also get a few large sizes at HUF online. Now my journey continues in search of a NB 998 Made in USA in the OG Grey C/W…
