Since I have three of them now, I felt it was time to do a PSE and tell you about a shoe by Gourmet that I really love. It’s the Gourmet L’Quadici model. A shoe made from quality materials to tackle on the rain and no, this isn’t a L.L. Bean duck boot wannabe. For me, it far exceeds that overplayed look. A look even Nike uses.
The bi-coastal brand Gourmet based in L.A was built by a trio of guys. The shoes designed by them are influenced from Italian and Italian-American Culture. Glancing at their line will prove this so true. Just look at the simple silhouettes, shapes and materials used on all their models. Clean, simple and un-disruptive as can be. Hence, their stand-out in the shoe market.
For me, one model stood out and grabbed my attention immediately. That was the Gourmet L’Quadici. They took the traditional duck boot look and built upon it by adding a dynamic sole unit, quality materials and the option of available tonal colors. The three you will see here are the Black, Blue Bird and Dove color-ways. Still looking to get the Red Ribbon C/W.
Personally, I only use these when it rains, but others like to wear them on any given day. So far, they stood up to the test of rain without any problems or issues. Though, I can only express from my current experience’s, the future will tell a better story on how well they hold up. As far as the materials used, expect nothing but quality. You get Napa leather with a molded rubber for the upper. Pigskin for the sock liner, a memory foam for the insole and full grain leather laces to finish of the silhouette.
Comfort is definitely there and I’m sure that the memory foam has something to do with it. Sizing is pretty true, unless you have really wide feet, than I would go half size up because of the narrow fit. But, most should be fine with true sizing. One thing I will mention is that these should be worn with slim to skinny fit denim. I say that because it doesn’t look right with wide legged denim or pants. To me, it hides the nice silhouette of the shoe. So you get a better idea, I included a capture at the end of the picture set with me wearing them at work with trousers. Not a good look. lmao. At the end though, wear them how ever you like. Just wanted to share my opinion. You’ll also be happy to know that the price of these have dropped from $180 to $125 now. You can even grab these on sale sometimes on Gilt or Plndr.
There are some other colors coming for Fall/Winter 2010 and Spring/Summer 2011 too. Stay tuned for the images coming up. They have a Navy, Yellow, Purple and a Safari print on the way. Also, there’s a new model that’s not ankle high like these on the way. More of a boot version.
